All you Knead - A User Experience Case Study
Problem to be solved
Home Economics education in Ireland often faces challenges related to resource management, accessibility, and engagement. Teachers struggle with time-consuming administrative tasks such as sourcing ingredients, managing student progress, and organising resources. Students lack a centralised platform to track their learning journey or view feedback from teachers. Meanwhile, parents often have limited visibility into their child’s progress and classroom activities.
AllYouKnead aimed to address these challenges by creating a single, user-friendly platform that simplifies classroom management, enhances learning engagement, and supports local sourcing.
Solution
The Nimbus UX team focused on addressing key user needs identified through research, including simplifying ingredient ordering, supporting student learning visibility, and improving communication between teachers, students, and parents.
Applying a human-centred design methodology, the team conducted collaborative workshops and co-design sessions with all three user groups. These activities included developing personas, mapping user journeys, wireframing, and creating interactive prototypes to ensure the platform met diverse needs across the Home Economics ecosystem.
By transforming manual and disconnected processes into a streamlined digital experience, AllYouKnead enables teachers to efficiently manage classes, students to take ownership of their learning, and parents to stay engaged in their child’s progress. The inclusion of locally sourced ingredient ordering further strengthens community connections and promotes sustainable education practices.
Impact for the company
The project fostered a collaborative design process through regular workshops with the client and interviews with teachers, students, and parents. The UX team’s research and design activities enabled AllYouKnead to build empathy with users and gain valuable insights into the everyday challenges of Home Economics education. Deliverables such as lean UX canvas, journey maps, and wireframes guided the transition from early concepts to a fully developed platform prototype.
The outputs from this project will be used to validate AllYouKnead’s value proposition with schools across Ireland and inform future software development. These deliverables will ensure that the final platform effectively supports teaching, learning, and community engagement. AllYouKnead aims to empower the next generation of Home Economists by creating a more connected, sustainable, and accessible learning experience.
